Brunei Registration Number Checker
Look up a Brunei company or business-name registration number (RC, RFC or P) in the official register.
Does Brunei have a TIN?
Brunei does not issue tax identification numbers. Its Ministry of Finance treats the registration number from the Registry of Companies and Business Names (ROCBN) as a business’s equivalent: RC plus 8 digits for companies, RFC plus 8 digits for foreign companies’ branches, and P plus 8 digits for business names — for example RC00006420.
Brunei registration number format
A fixed letter prefix and eight digits.
(P, RC or RFC)
Example: RC00006420 (Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Berhad, a public company).
- Prefixes: P = proprietorship or partnership (9 characters), RC = registered company (10), RFC = registered foreign company (11).
- No check digit: None is published, so a correctly shaped number can still be unregistered.
- Status: Struck-off companies keep their number in the register, so a recognised number is not proof the business is still registered; the checker shows the status.
- Individuals: The identity card number (NN-NNNNNN) is the individual equivalent. This checker checks its format only.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Brunei have a TIN?
No. Brunei’s Ministry of Finance says it does not issue TINs to individuals or entities. Businesses use their registration number from the Registry of Companies and Business Names (ROCBN) instead, and individuals use their identity card number.
What is the format of a Brunei company registration number?
RC followed by 8 digits for companies (e.g. RC00006420), RFC followed by 8 digits for foreign companies’ branches, and P followed by 8 digits for sole proprietorships and partnerships. There are no hyphens and no published check digit.
How do I check a Brunei company registration number?
Enter it in the checker on this page. It looks the number up in the official register and shows the registered name, address and status. A struck-off company keeps its number — Brunei Shell Tankers Sdn Bhd (RC00002535) is struck off — so check the status, not just the name.
What number do individuals use, for example on a CRS form?
Their Brunei identity card number: 8 digits printed NN-NNNNNN. The first two digits identify the card type (citizen, permanent resident or temporary resident) and whether it was registered before or after 2000 — they are not a year of birth. This checker only checks the format of an identity card number; never enter another person’s.
Does Brunei have a VAT or GST number?
No. Brunei levies no VAT, GST or general sales tax, so there is no VAT number. For a Brunei supplier, use its ROCBN registration number.
Do sole proprietors and partnerships pay tax in Brunei?
No. Only companies incorporated or registered under the Companies Act pay income tax (the standard corporate rate is 18.5%). Sole proprietorships and partnerships registered as business names (P numbers) are not taxed, but the P number still identifies them.
