South Sudan TIN
South Sudan Taxpayer Identification Numbers are issued by the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA). The SSRA publishes no TIN format.
What is a South Sudan TIN?
A South Sudan TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) is the unique number the South Sudan Revenue Authority — formerly the National Revenue Authority — issues to every registered taxpayer under the Taxation Act. TINs issued on the eTax platform since 2021 replaced older numbers, and the TIN must appear on returns, transactions and documents.
How to confirm a South Sudan TIN
- 1 Ask the supplier for its TIN and its TIN certificate (issued by the SSRA, formerly the NRA).
- 2 Check the TIN appears on an eTax-issued TIN certificate — the NRA made pre-eTax TINs inactive from 1 July 2021.
- 3 For a business, its Ministry of Justice business registration number is a different number from the TIN.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who issues a South Sudan TIN?
The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA), which was renamed from the National Revenue Authority in 2023. Taxpayers register through its eTax platform.
Can I check a South Sudan TIN with the SSRA?
The SSRA’s website has a free TIN search that says whether a TIN is valid or invalid; it does not show the holder’s name. The SSRA does not publish the TIN’s format.
My TIN is from before 2021. Is it still valid?
No. The NRA (now the SSRA) announced that old TINs would be inactive from 1 July 2021, once the eTax platform launched. Businesses and organisations with an older TIN register on eTax and get a new TIN, and the authority reconciles their old records under it.
Must the TIN appear on returns and tax documents?
Yes. Under the Taxation Act, a person’s TIN must appear on all returns, transactions and other documents required under the Act, and be given to anyone making a payment to them.
Does a TIN cost anything, and does it expire?
Registration is free. The Taxation Act sets no expiry date for a registration, but the Commissioner General can cancel it — for example when a business closes or is sold, a sole proprietor dies, or a person was registered in error.
Is the business registration number the TIN?
No. The business registration number is issued by the Ministry of Justice, and a business needs it before it can apply for a TIN.
