Barbados TIN Format Checker

Check that a Barbados Taxpayer Identification Number has the BRA’s format: 13 digits starting with 1.

What is a Barbados TIN?

A Barbados TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) is the unique 13-digit number the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) issues when a person or business registers in its TAMIS tax system. Every TIN starts with 1 and contains only digits — the BRA’s example is 1000122133144. The BRA tells VAT-registered businesses to quote it in place of the old VAT registration number.

Barbados TIN format

Thirteen digits, always starting with 1.

1 Always 1
000122133144 Twelve randomly
generated digits

Example: 1000122133144, the illustration on the BRA’s TIN registration page.

  • Digits only: No letters, dashes, slashes or country prefix. This checker removes dashes if pasted.
  • No meaning: The digits are randomly generated, so they don’t encode the taxpayer type, region or date.
  • Not a TIN: A REG… case reference, a National Registration Number or a CAIPO registration number is a different number.
  • Format check only: This checker confirms the BRA’s structure. Many TINs belong to individuals, so never enter or share another person’s TIN.

How to check a Barbados TIN

  1. 1 Find the TIN on the supplier’s tax invoice, quotation or receipt.
  2. 2 Enter the 13 digits above. The checker confirms that the number has the BRA’s format.
  3. 3 If the checker reports an error, ask the supplier to confirm the number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an online BRA TIN lookup?

No. The Barbados Revenue Authority’s (BRA) TIN information sheet for the OECD gives no online TIN-verification tool, so no website can confirm who holds a TIN. This checker confirms that the number has the BRA’s format.

What is the format of a Barbados TIN?

Thirteen digits, always starting with 1, with no letters, dashes or slashes — for example the BRA’s own illustration, 1000122133144. Individuals and companies have the same format.

Is the Barbados TIN the same as the VAT number?

In practice, yes. Since the TAMIS system was introduced, the BRA has told VAT registrants to show their TAMIS TIN on quotations, invoices and receipts in place of the previous VAT registration number. There is no separate VAT number format.

Does a Barbados TIN have a check digit?

No check digit is published. The BRA says the number is randomly generated, so a format check catches a wrong length or first digit but cannot prove that a TIN was issued.

Who needs a Barbados TIN?

All employees, self-employed people, companies, partnerships and joint ventures, charities, non-profits, clubs and societies, and pensioners above the BRA’s income threshold. Companies, sole traders and partnerships register with the Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office (CAIPO) first.

I have a REG number, not a TIN. Is that my TIN?

No. A Registration Case Reference such as REG101364 means a BRA officer has to vet the application before a TIN is issued.
