What is a Malian NIF?

The NIF (numéro d’identification fiscale) is the tax number Mali’s Direction Générale des Impôts assigns to businesses and individuals who register for tax, printed on a DGI registration card. It is written as nine digits and a letter — for example 087800298H for AFG Bank Mali SA — and VAT on a supplier’s invoice is not deductible unless the invoice carries the supplier’s NIF.

Malian NIF format

Nine digits followed by a letter.

087800298 Nine digits
H Final letter

Example: 087800298H (AFG Bank Mali SA, as printed on the bank’s own notices).

  • Input: Upper or lower case, with or without a space or hyphen before the letter. No ML prefix.
  • Active taxpayers: The lookup covers active taxpayers; a NIF that isn’t found may be inactive.
  • Not a NIF: The RCCM, the NINA and the INPS social-security number are different numbers.
  • Privacy: Individuals can hold a NIF too. Never enter another person’s NIF.

How to check a Malian NIF

  1. 1 Find the NIF on the supplier’s invoice or letterhead — it is often printed next to the RCCM number.
  2. 2 Enter it above. The checker looks the NIF up among active taxpayers and returns the registered name.
  3. 3 If the checker says the registry was temporarily unavailable, the NIF was not found among active taxpayers or the register did not answer — ask the supplier for its registration card.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Mali NIF?

The numéro d’identification fiscale is the tax number the Direction Générale des Impôts (DGI) assigns when a business or person registers for tax, and it is printed on a DGI registration card. A NIF is free and the card is available 48 hours after applying.

What does a Mali NIF look like?

Nine digits followed by one letter, with no spaces or country prefix — for example 087800298H, which AFG Bank Mali SA prints on its own notices.

Can I check a Mali NIF online? (Vérifier un NIF au Mali)

Yes. Enter it in the checker on this page: it looks the NIF up in official records of active taxpayers and returns the registered name and status. A NIF that is not on the active list may be inactive rather than false.

Does the NIF have a check letter?

It ends in a letter, but the DGI publishes no rule for computing it, so only the register lookup can catch a wrong letter.

Why must the supplier’s NIF be on the invoice?

Under the tax code, VAT is not deductible where the invoice does not carry the supplier’s NIF. The seller can also be fined 2% of the amount for invoices missing required details, at least 20,000 FCFA per invoice.

Is the NIF the same as the RCCM or the NINA?

No. The RCCM is the commercial-register number (e.g. MA BKO 2007 B 1183), and the NINA is the national identification number used to apply for a NIF. Mali has no separate VAT number: VAT payers are registered under the NIF.
