What is a Montserrat company number?
A Montserrat company number (company registration number) is the unique number the Registrar of Companies at the Financial Services Commission allots when a company is incorporated or re-registered. On the register it reads L, four digits, a slash and a year — for example L0060/2025 for Montserrat Utilities Limited. It is not a tax number.
Montserrat company number format
L, a four-digit serial, a slash and a year (as shown on the register).
(restarts each year)
Example: L0060/2025 (Montserrat Utilities Limited, from the CIPO companies register).
- Input: With or without the slash, or with a hyphen, in upper or lower case.
- No check digit: The number is a yearly serial and a year.
- What we return: The registered company name.
- Not a company number: The Inland Revenue (IRD) file number, or a UK Companies House number for a UK company named “Montserrat…”.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Montserrat have a tax identification number (TIN)?
The Tax Administration Act 2023 requires the Comptroller of Inland Revenue to assign a TIN, but no TIN format or public lookup has been published, and Inland Revenue forms still ask for the IRD (file) number. For a company, the company number is the identifier you can verify publicly.
What does a Montserrat company number look like?
On the register, every company number is the letter L, four digits, a slash and a four-digit year — for example L0060/2025 for Montserrat Utilities Limited. This format is taken from the register; no law defines it.
Why does an old Montserrat company have a 2025 number?
Under the Companies Act 2023, which came into force on 1 April 2024, existing companies were re-registered and allotted a unique number. For a re-registered company the register shows the re-registration date, and even new companies can carry the following year in their number, so the year is not a reliable founding date.
Who issues Montserrat company numbers?
The Registrar of Companies, at the Financial Services Commission’s Companies & Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), allots a unique number when a company is incorporated.
Is the company number the same as the tax (IRD) number?
No. The company number comes from CIPO; the tax file number comes from Inland Revenue. The Financial Services Commission must notify the Comptroller of Inland Revenue within ten days of a company’s incorporation.
Are business names and sole traders covered?
Not yet. The CIPO portal lists business names and micro and small businesses as coming soon, so their numbers can’t be checked here.
